Why You Might See a New Company Drop Off Your Next Amazon Package

Amazon.com introduced Amazon Flex last year which allows independent contractors to sign up and schedule their own shifts delivering packages to local Prime customers. The initiative started due to a sky-rocketing growth in online shopping and no indication of its demand slowing. Last year there were 5 billion packages shipped through the online retailer’s Prime program alone.

With ambitions to franchise the Flex business model, Amazon encourages entrepreneurs to start delivery companies where owners run their own daily operations by finishing the “last leg” of the shipping process. The full terms of the agreement for small-business owners are undisclosed at this time; however, they would be able to deliver packages for Amazon’s competitors.

Entrepreneurs can build brand recognition for their new businesses as drivers hit the road in trucks covered in vehicle wraps with graphics that identify each unique, self-started delivery company. A single intra-city truck or vehicle with graphics can generate up to 16 million visual impressions in a year. A creative, professional graphic design is key for entrepreneurs to state the right message in an industry with high competition.

Amazon says on its website that business owners could make between $75,000 and $300,000 in annual profits by putting 20 to 40 vans into operation. The implementation of freelancing through Amazon Flex gives entrepreneurs the ability to make their own money on their own time. Amazon’s reliance is straining on its current delivery outlets including the U.S. Postal Service, FedEx, and UPS, but this solution could prove to save costs and relationships while boosting the economy.
